Above all, don’t lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.

As a woman, I feel continually shhh’ed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Blah blah. Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things.

(and)

Some people spend whole lifetimes trying to deny themselves the magic and wonder of being loved. The world is weird, man. People are becoming increasingly disconnected from other people and I can only conclude that this is because of an underlying fear of really sharing ones self with another soul.

Posting for all the first kinds of people,
and for all the second kinds of people,
who are often culprits of making the first kinds of people feel shhh’ed.
I hope you rediscover how to feel affected.

It does help, to be a writer, to have the sort of crazed ego that doesn’t allow for failure. The best reaction to a rejection slip is a sort of wild-eyed madness, an evil grin, and sitting yourself in front of the keyboard muttering “Okay, you bastards. Try rejecting this!” and then writing something so unbelievably brilliant that all other writers will disembowel themselves with their pens upon reading it, because there’s nothing left to write.

It’s good to get people motivated and doing something. The danger is who and for what.

My dad.

(During a conversation where I was discussing the idea that these ‘action kits’ could conceivably be tracking devices or mind control chips, where anybody seen not wearing a bracelet would be considered a resisting outlaw. I don’t really think this is what they are - I’m not that paranoid yet - but I can’t believe how many people in this world are willing to share information without questioning its validity or its source. We have strength when we rise up together, but ignorance dressed as awareness is as useful as a guilt-alleviating poster or a sketchy charity dressed up as a cause you understand.
In an era where information spreads like wildfire, we need to have the skill of independent investigation, and the instinct of skepticism.
There is nothing more effective in this world than the masses, and nothing more dangerous.)

The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day…. The only thing that’s capital-T True is that you get to decide how you’re going to try to see it. You get to consciously decide what has meaning and what doesn’t…. The trick is keeping the truth up-front in daily consciousness.

No matter what happens, what keeps happening, I have always believed this and I will keep believing it. And I think (I hope) life will get easier as I fill it with more people who understand this and subscribe to it.
You have to notice. You have to pay attention to detail and revel in giving, you have to find sexiness in the unsexy, you have to see the joy in not being a completely free agent, and most importantly, you have to choose.
Every day. You have to choose.

Failure is always louder than success. But there is an accumulation of all the things you don’t do wrong, and that becomes your confidence.

I hate how the phrase ‘have some self respect’ is used to shame women who are comfortable with their sex lives. ‘Have some self respect’? I do respect myself, that’s why I wanna have a fucking orgasm tonight, thank you very much.
